Background:

Anthony qualified from Manchester University in 1982 then undertook his orthopaedic training in London before returning to the North West of England. He completed a Specialist Fellowship in Lower Limb Joint Replacement Surgery at Wrightington Hospital and visited Centres in Bern, Pittsburgh and Toronto to further develop his interest and expertise in the management of complex hip, pelvic and lower limb disorders.

Anthony established the North West Pelvic, Acetabular and Young Adult Hip service at North Manchester General Hospital in 1994. He is a nationally recognised expert in the management of complex problems of the hip joint and pelvic bones.

His expertise lie in the fields of joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee, together with the assessment and management of young adult hip pain, treating patients with hip dysplasia (underdeveloped hip socket) and hip impingement. This includes performing specialised procedures to realign the bones around the hip (Osteotomy) as an alternative to joint replacement in younger patients.  He is one of only a few surgeons in the UK who regularly perform the Ganz Periacetabular Osteotomy, in addition to performing surgical fixations of complex pelvis and hip socket fractures.

His clinical experience has also allowed Anthony to be actively involved in clinical governance which is essential to maintain high standards in clinical practice. Together with his clinical expertise this means his patients are being treated by a consultant who is familiar with new developments and aware of all the factors which ensure a high quality of care is received.
