Background:

I completed my Specialist Registrar training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the Eastern Deanery rotation in 2009. I was fortunate enough to spend a year during my training working in Malawi at the BEIT Cure Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre where I learned a great deal about trauma, bone infection and congenital deformity. I then completed a 12 month fellowship at Wrightington Hospital in specialist revision joint replacement techniques, and pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery.

In 2010 I visited the Inselspittal in Berne, Switzerland for 6 weeks as an AO Trauma Fellow, and then Professor Soballe in Aarhus, Denmark as a British Hip Society European Travelling Fellow.

In 2012 was very fortunate to be selected as the representative of the British Hip Society on the Hip Society (US) Rothman Ranawat Travelling fellowship to North America and Canada.

I was appointed as a Consultant at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust in 2010. I have been Clinical Director for Trauma from 2012 to 2014, and am currently Clinical Director for Lower Limb Surgery.

My elective practice is based at Wrightington Hospital where my practice is predominantly hip and knee replacements, with a focus on revision surgery.

My trauma practice is predominantly based at the Royal Preston Hospital which is the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire. My trauma subspecialist interests are pelvic and acetabular surgery and periprosthetic fractures.

I have research interests in Metal on Metal Hip Replacements, Prosthetic Joint Infection and Periprosthetic Fractures.

I have a keen interest in teaching and education and with support of the John Charnley Trust, together with colleagues I run regular courses at Wrightington Hospital. I am also a Trustee of the John Charnley Trust.

I continue to have an interest in supporting orthopaedic care in Low Income countries. I am chair of trustees of the North West Orthopaedic Alliance for Africa, and am a mentor for colleagues in Malawi as part of an AOAF initiative.
